This was once the Turkish area of Chania during the Ottoman empire. The Greeks used to live in the Venetian area(west part) and the Turks used to live in the Splanzia area. There is still a restaurant here named 'The Well of the Turk'.
Not only the botanical gardens itself are amazing, but also the view. On occasion, you also get amazing views inside the gardens, but this one was taken just outside.
This is the bridge to Preveli which leads to the east entry of Preveli beach. The bridge itself is near one of the most popular restaurants of Preveli. If you eventually go to the beach, you are advised to walk the western route however as it is a bit easier. The eastern route requires a lot of climbing while the west entry goes to some long steps down.

Chania's nightlife offers something to everyone in summer. Whether you want to sit on a terrace on a warm summernight and just watch people, go to a rockbar, or stay up all night in a club. The harbor looks especially great in the evening, when all lights are lit and the harbor is filled with life.
I've written a whole article about this gorge. You can find it by clicking HERE.
If you are fit enough, then this gorge is highly recommended. Start at Sougia, and walk towards the little harbor. Past the harbor you will find the entrance. Follow the yellow rocks all the way up through the gorge and nature until you reach the plateau. From there you take the stone steps all the way down to Lissos and it's abandoned ancient village.
After exploring the paradise that is Lissos, you can take a boat back to Sougia for only a few euros. Bring enough water and food. You can fill your waterbottles with groundwater at Lissos(clean and tasty), but there is no bar or restaurant to get some food. Spring, summer, autumn or winter. Greece, and especially Crete, is usually filled with color. Especially when the sky is blue you will be surrounded by colors. It has been proven by science that these colors are good for your state of mind. The more colors you see, the better you will feel and the better you will sleep at night.
The hill between Kalamaki and Agioi Apostoli is the perfect place for a sunset. Looking towards Kalamaki and Stalos.
A storm, or rainstorm, does not happen that often in Crete. But when it does, it can be extreme. Yet even bad weather has it's beauty here. Photo taken from Agioi Apostoli looking towards Kalamaki, Galatas and Stalos.
When it comes to the beach itself, this side of Chrisi Akti might not be the best spot to lie down. This side is near Agioi Apostoli. When you walk further towards Nea Chora/Chania, then you will find the sandy beach.
But this pebbly beach does have some great things to offer. First of all, it's quiet. Not many people go for a swim here. Another reason is the amazing view you have over Chania and Nea Chora. And when you stand on the hill, you can look the other way over Agioi Apostoli. The chapel of Agioi Apostoli is a more modern chapel than most found in Crete. It's still beautiful, and it's location and view simply stunning. Many Greeks also get married here, and the area is big enough to have quite a party.
Besides the fact that a sunset can be absolutely gorgeous, a sunset also relieves stress. It helps against depression. If you are on vacation, then nothing will aid your vacation more than some great sunsets. But also if you are having a tough time, or even if it's just been a hard day at work, it always feels like this has some healing powers.
Photo taken in Kalamaki, looking towards Stalos. Some call if Agii Apostoloi and some call it Kalamaki.
The border is somewhere in between. I took the photo from Agii Apostoloi looking towards Kalamaki. Both Kalamaki and Agii Apostoloi are great places to stay. A lof nature, beautiful bays, dozens of bars and restaurants, close to Chania yet not as crowded as Chania. When people talk about Preveli, it's usually about the palm beach, palm forest or the long steps leading down(or worse: back up).
But Preveli has a lot of nature that is worth exploring. The river that ends up at the beach, provides with so much green in Preveli area. And it will be a lot less crowded than the beach! It always feels like time is standing still for a moment when you enjoy that sunset at the beach.
And if you don't have the patience to just enjoy the view, nothing really beats a swim in these pearl warm waters. Photo taken at Agii Apostoli, Chania. One of the places that always gives me an incredible relaxed summerfeeling is Kalyves, Crete. Walk the narrow streets in this beautiful village, or enjoy a terrace in the shade or at the beach.
